SECURITIES ARBITRATION -
CLAIMS AGAINST SECURITIES BROKERS
AND INVESTMENT ADVISERS

Breach of Contract

The ordinary principles of contract law apply to investment brokers. When they contract to do something they are liable for any resultant loss when they breach the contract. For instance, if they accept an order to purchase a security and they do not do so, they can be liable for any subsequent rise in value of the security until the time when the customer has a chance to make other arrangements for purchase.
